J&S Productions was formed by Susan Jensen and Paul Singer in New York City, in 1989 and relocated to Santa Barbara, California in 2000. As documentary filmmakers they look for compelling stories about people, places and history of the West. They were inspired to tell the story of the vaquero tradition through their love of horses and appreciation of excellent horsemanship and the people who spend their lives ranching and cowboying. The Vaquero Series has received recognition by numerous magazines and newspapers, is shown to school children throughout the country, screened at major museums throughout the United States and featured at national gatherings of cowboy poets and muscians.
Prior to their quest to record cowboy history in a series of documentaries, J&S Productions was an advertising agency for leading Fortune 500 companies including Fidelity Investments, Chase Bank, Fairmont Hotels, Cunard Cruise Lines and numerous others. They produced advertising in a range of media television, radio, house magazines, print, internet and documentary programming.
Cofounder and Director of J & S Productions, Susan has enjoyed a multifaceted career spanning advertising and documentary filmmaking. She an appreciation for western history. An ear for a great story and a keen eye through the camera lens, augmented by training at NYU Film School, and UCLA Film School. Prior to 1989 and her foray into the documentary world, Susan was Senior Vice President at several New York ad agencies, among them, Ogilvy & Mather, Wells Rich Greene and DDB/Needham. She developed advertising and communication programs for a broad roster of Fortune 500 clients.
Cofounder and Producer of J & S Productions, Paul has been honored with many industry awards including a Silver Lion from the Cannes Film Festival, recognition from the New York Art Directors Club and AIGA. He has also been honored with permanent membership in the Clio Hall of Fame. Over the years, he has created ad campaigns for Volkswagen, Gillette, Pepto-Bismol, Corning Glass Fuji Film and Pioneer Electronics. Before forming J&S Productions, Paul was a Creative/Art Director at DDB, McCaffrey McCall, Young & Rubicam and Scali McCabe Sloves.
